Leslie Cory

It’s great to meet you.

I grew up in California's Central Valley, in a deeply divided community that was frequently written about and rarely written with. That experience shaped everything — how I think about power, who gets to tell stories, and what communications is actually for.

I spent more than a decade living across the United States and internationally, working in newsrooms, government agencies, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations. I've reported alongside indigenous communities in Argentina, moderated structured conversations between police officers and formerly incarcerated residents in Stockton, founded a civic dialogue series during the 2020 election cycle in Hartford, and built audiences at the Guardian US and the Los Angeles Times by going to communities rather than waiting for them to come to us.

Today I lead strategic communications at Be Clear Communications, where I develop campaigns, narrative strategy, and content for political campaigns, civic organizations, legal cases, and advocacy efforts — including work with democracy-focused organizations where nonpartisan credibility is the entire foundation of the work.

My work has appeared in or been produced for the Guardian US, Los Angeles Times, Hartford Courant, National Geographic, Solutions Journalism Network, and others, in partnership with organizations including the Investigative Reporting Program, the Gates Foundation, and the Obama Foundation.

I hold a B.A. in Communication and Psychology from UC Davis and an M.A. in Journalism — New Media & Documentary from UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism.
